What are they:
Book Of Shadows: a collection of magickal folklore, recipes and spells, used primarily by wiccans. Contents are immense and cover a wide range of topics. It was said that this information had to be kept secret or "in the shadows" to protect the owner.
Grimoire: a textbook of magic and conjuring, used primarily by non wiccans & sorcerers. Contents are immense. Topics vary but contains many potions, spells and ceremonies. Sometimes holds the secrets to darker spells. Many times the information is not shared.
Things that may be included: Self initiation page or pledge, Rede /Laws or ethical statement, header pages on a wide variety of topics, for example; recipes, spells, deities, potions, gem lore, folklore, candle lore, colour lore, rune lore, herb information, Lunar lore and correspondences, Esbats, Sabbats, rituals, sacred texts or poems, symbols etc...
You might also list the books you have read that have information that appealed to you. This list will be a great reference for you when you need to find information quickly from other books.
Types of books: Handmade or computer generated, even a "scrapbook" style may appeal to some. You can create your own custom theme depending on your beliefs or pantheon. You may have 2, one private and one that is a copy of your group, Circle, or coven.
Outer cover: Covers can be as simple as a plastic binder to as beautiful as an engraved wood front and back. You can also sew a sheath to fit over binders. There are also a wide variety of retail book cover out on the market.
